Description:
Live TV consumes large amount of memory, causing MP to crash.

Searched the forums but could not find any similar reports. I have the following problem. When in MyTV and running live TV, the program is slowly leaking memory. Eventually (4-5 hours) the system runs out of swap memory and MP crashes (access violation in Psisdecd.dll). This happens every time. The only way to free the memory before this happens is to quit MP. I have already tried some suggested actions like re-creating the TV database and turning of the DVB EPG.

Can anybody confirm this?

Regards

ok well i can't say i've noticed any memory leaks on the stable releases or the numerous SVN builds i've used.

maybe it's specific to your system. logs would help.

Yes, probably is my system. I mean, the problem is easy to reproduce (on my machine) and nothing like it reported here. I can still watch TV but it would be nice to finally get a working setup :)
Anyway, I will post the logs as soon as I can.

Cheers!

I believe I have reproduced this action... You may have noticed my posts about livetv freezing up elsewhere on the forums. I have done all the tips and tricks things to help smooth video, and after doing them all, tv still freezes. I updated my video card drivers, everything. Here's what happens:

I go into My TV, tv guide, pick a channel, and begin watching. While previously before I did the tips and tricks, the video would just straight up freeze, now it slows down to a halt over a period of minutes. It gets choppier and choppier, until it finally freezes. MP is still responsive at this point, although very very sluggish. I managed to get back out to the main menu but when when I hit the "stop" button on the remote, something strange happens. The screen in the corner goes black, and then proceeds to flash on and off the screen for a few seconds at a time. MP is really sluggish at this point, so I'll draw up logs now.

In looking at task manager at this point, the cpu usage is only around 7 percent, but the memory usage is huge - 1.03GB, which is higher than the 768MB I have (meaning it went into virtual memory)! There is definitely a memory leak here. I've attached two screenshots of task manager. One when the blinking of the blank video in the corner on the main menu was going on, and one when I killed the MP process, you can see a huge dropoff in memory usage.

I went to open the log files and the error log was almost 68MB! I'll try and compress those log files and put them up on my site:

I see. In my case, while watching any channel video is normal (no stutter) until the system begins to fail due to swap memory running out. I've noticed a slow but steady increase (<1MB/s) in memory usage by looking at the VFD, when TV is on.

Mediaportal crashes to desktop at this point, though I'm still able to ALT+TAB back into Mediaportal but when trying to turn TV off it hangs. I assume the TV module is running in its own thread.

So I let it run overnight and as expected it crashed with the same error. The memory usage at this point was 1.75GB. Here is a zip containing my log files.

I guess you are using the TV-server. If I read the error log correctly. The client tries to connect to the TV-server, but connection is refused.
