Millhouse, I reviewed those sections before I joined the forum...what I'm wondering is, can the MediaPortal DVD player open DVD's ripped to folders (basically, read VOB's and IFO files like Cyberlink and other DVD software can, navigating the directory structure as if it were a DVD image?) If the DVD's are ripped to iso, can the iso files be made to show up catalogued, with DVD-cover icons and descriptions?
What I'm after is the ability to browse my ripped DVD collection by DVD cover, and upon selection, have the ability to navigate the DVD as if it were the actual disc.
That does work but you need to find a good build because I am running Stable 0.2.3.0 and it is not working as smooth as it should, it stutters like hell...
I can't answer the ripped to folders question (though I believe the answer is Yes).
As far as ISO - that's what I do with my DVD collection. I've got them all ripped to HD as ISOs. To do this (assuming the disks are already ripped):
1) Install Daemon Tools for mounting images.
2) In configuration, general, tell it where Daemon tools is installed, and which drive to use (if you have >1 virtual drive set up)
3) In configuration, Movies->Movie Extensions, add the iso file type so MP knows they are movies.
4) Movies->Movie Folders, tell MP where your ISOs are stored.
5) Movies->Movie Database, do a scan of your movie folders. It'll look them up in imdb, add descriptions and cover art.
Now in MP switch to a database view (e.g. Title view instead of Shares). When you select a movie, it'll mount the image using Daemon Tools and start the disk just like you put the DVD in the drive.
thanks millhouse, Now that I can upload my dvd's. I now wish to use my own pics for icons yet (and as suggested I looked harder this time!!!) I cannot seem to get the local image browse option (movie database-editor-coverart)and (if your post mentioning dameon tools is the solution) I do not really understand the Daemon tools set up yet ok ok yes I am a Komputer Kook - some simple explanations will be much appreciated.
I am running mediaportal 2.2
Will I be able to use local images for genre icons? If so can you please tell me how??
the Browse Local Images is a new feature in 0.2.3. This is the latest stable build, and I highly recommend you run it. Makes support easier, and has a lot of annoyances fixed.
In 0.2.2, the easiest thing to do to replace the imdb images with your own is to go to crogram files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\thumbs\vidoes\title. Each movie has 2 thumbnails that match the movie database name. One is a large image (with the "L" in the file), one the small one. Just replace these two images with your own.
For Daemon tools. Just install it if you haven't already. Version 3.47 (here) is the best supported, from what I've read in the forums. Don't use the latest version of Daemon Tools. Run Daemon tools and set number of devices to 1.
Then in MP configuration->general->Daemon Tools, browse out to the path of Daemon.exe and leave the other defaults. (The defaults are correct if D-Tools is set to one device.)
For Genre icons - my experience in 0.2.3, and what I've read in the forums, is that Genre icons DO NOT WORK. You SHOULD be able to just drop a file in the thumbs/videos/genre directory matching the genre (e.g. action.jpg) and it would work, but it doesn't. Don't know about 0.2.2. Also on this note - imdb genres are an absolute mess. You may want to use the database editor in configuration to edit your movie genres to something that is a lot cleaner if you plan to use them.
By the way, I rip my DVDs as files (bups, vobs, ifos) rather than as isos. I don't know of any downside to this (happy to be advised if there is) and it does mean that you don't need to use the Daemon tools. Just play the folder from MP.
Thank you for pointing out that my analysis may be less than accurate. :p
Although the change to TV channel 71 may not also have been applied to the independent radio channels (different MUXes), the logs that I prepared for one of the development team does show a difference between channel 704 ("BBC Radio 4") and channel 731...

Can anyone tell me the step-by-step procedure for bringing up a second channel in pip mode? I can only do it sometimes, after many tries, and it’s not clear what I am doing that makes it work on those occasions when it does. Cannot find guidance on the site.
Thanks, N.
