i'm a big fan of MCE 2005 and was installing media portal on another computer since its the closest equivalent without having to reformat the computer. Just wondering if there is anyway to have local dvds on the hard drive accessed by media portal in the interface? Much like the mymovies plugin in media center 2005 (which uses imdb to find information on movies and display them) as well as play the dvd from the VIDEO_TS folder

(example:

"c:\saving_private_ryan\video_ts"
)

photos below? what should i use? do?

i'm sure you're all familiar with this plugin for mce2005, its ease of use and its user-friendly interface is the reason why i initially switched from MP to mce2005. what is the equivalent plugin for MP?

i'm not an expert or anything, but i know you can mount iso images of dvds and get dvd covers for them to match up so it looks like that, and apparently you can get IMDB to lookup information on those as well, i have a feeling tho you cannot as yet have the ability to have the watched and unwatched options in MP but i may be wrong

thanks for the reply but with the mymovies plugin in mce

you can just point the movie to a folder

example

c:\saved by the bell\video_ts

that way you dont have to mount 50 different iso and have 50 drives active (i dont even know if you can do that)

thats the advantage of having the video_ts folders you dont have to make iso images and mount them..

i've been out of the mp scene for a year so i was wondering if i've missed out on this particular plugin or feature?

yeah - you can definetly do that! it's how i've got mine set up. using the shares view, browse to the folder you've got the video_ts folder stored in (ie - in your example, find the folder called 'saved by the bell'). then whack the f3 key, and mp will look up the movie info via imdb. you can then change the view to 'title', or 'genre', or 'actor' or whatever you want and browse your movies like the mce plugin!

You don't need to mount all your iso movies to different drives. MP will mount your image using daemon tools when you choose to watch it.
