Lockdown Windows 7 for only Media Portal? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Im pretty new to media portal and basically wanted to know if you can lockdown windows 7 to run only media portal and nothing else as i have a HTPC onyl being used for that.

Any ideas or suggestions would be nice.

So you want it so nobody can do anything else but Mediaportal or you just want to know about disabling everything you dont need?

Well yeh basically YOU got it right i want to lock it down so nobody can do anything else!! Except just use media portal.

I have windows 7 so i really also want to strip to down to the max and utilise it for media portal only as well.

Any suggestions would be nice.

Take a look at nLite.

It all depends on how you would use it.

Would the Media be stored on the machine? is it a client?

If its a client then you need the Networking services.

Essential to Media Portal is .Net 3.5 SP1, Media Player 11/12.

Don't use Tiny7 as this is useless for MediaPortal.

Yes the htpc is a client as i have a main server in another room which has all the content.

The best option I have used is

Windows 7 Home Premium

with all but essential services switched off.

Maybe im missing what you are after but would a group policy be what you are after?

->run
- gpedit.msc
