Long time loading music from NAS (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I am a new MP user, and have experienced a loooong time loading my music from my NAS. I am running a fresh install (Windows XP SP3 + MP 1.1 RC4) without TV-support. When I select "Music" it takes about 2 mins before the list of available entries to show up. I have looked around to see if anyone else have experienced this kind of problem, but havn't found anything.

Are you using DB (database) view, or just "filebrowsing"? I knw that MP is not perfect when it comes to NAS and similar, but I believe that using a DB-view (and a fast connection) should be good enought for music.

IME, on WindXPSP3, I did have a similar issue...but Spragleknas offers excellent advice with the link he sent.

How big are your "folders" in your listing...my NAS can only transfer btw 6-10mbs...so quite slow (but cheap). Anyway, I assumed it took along time because I told it to use Icons, big icons, when it uses icons (especially on first few attempt), it has to read each folder and assign a picture to it...a good amount of overhead imo in the begining...but that is not MP problem, it is my hw problem. Then I learned to get all the data in the Music setup of MP, a long initial load as it parses my 122GB of music, but it speeds up daily use.

I learned to further define my folders on my NAS because I mainly had them all in one folder, completely unorganized. Now they are situated correctly and it takes no time flat to get there...the more songs you have in the folder the longer it will take.
