Hi all,

I'm currently fiddling with some MP database readouts and publishing them on the net (see my post here).
Kinda need a good and stunning design for it but I'm struggling.
If any of you feel like opening up photoshop and throw some sample pages together it would be awesome (if I like them that is ;))

some screenshots (to get a rough idea) of what it is looking like now (which is bad);

I'm also planning to be able to change some fields through the web, like the my rating column for example (why I locked it for now, security).

-------EDIT---------
Opened it up again.

THat looks great. I can't wait to see where this project is going.

It is probably out of the scope for your webpage, but it would be great if it some point it could be possible to acces a webpage where one could stream movies through, when not at home. Kind of what is going on with the webinterface allowing us to schedule and stream recordings and LiveTV. But this is far ahead.

wow, yeah you're already lightyears in front of me ;)

First I need a stunning design, I'm not good @ design. If you think you are or just creative with photoshop don't be shy to post some graphic here.
I'm a webdeveloper myself. Other people design stuff I put in reality on the web (also do mobile deving). I'm just not creative with the actual graphic bit in that way. I can manipulate stuff real good on the other hand and I like programming.

But about your suggestion. It might be possible. I was using ffmpeg a while back for work and I got it going quite well creating an flv on the fly. Maybe there might be a possibility to transcode it (on the fly, I wish / hope ;)) and stream it through flash video?
Who knows. It will suck bandwith and eat processing power, that's for sure.

p.s.

It's still real early. I know about all sorts of issues within multiple browsers. The html is still kinda bad, will clean it up and do some cleanup on the images. The genres will be removed from main listing as well I think (maybe a wall of thumb selection page?)

I know, just throwing ideas. And I am not any good with photoshop :(. The only thing I do is come up with ideas and hope other people have the skills to put them to life.

Well, I know Tversity and Orb, and they would be a way to go. But I would like a webserver that was based on My MediaPortal Database, Being able to use CoverArt, FanArt, MediaInfo etc from MediaPortal. I know this will probably not happen anytime soon, but I think a webinterface that could potentially be used for the same things as the MediaPortal client would be awesome and make it very easy to take your media with you when away from your home.

jonaskp I think the basics of your ideas are good but like you already kinda figured this will be really long term. I'm thinking running a quick test with on the fly transcoding to flv and streaming at the same time.
I know about some issues before hand;

1) Not all formats are suitable for streaming like this. containers can have video and audio split into 2 parts, 1 part video 1 part audio. It can also be a block video, block audio, block video etc.
The last one is suitable for on the fly transcoding the first one isn't

2) I need to read chunks of the data that's already converted. I hope I can get around filelocks etc, but shouldn't really be a problem because I only need to read to stream.

3) I know flash has 2 (or maybe even more) ways of streaming. One of them (the better solution) requires a flash server, so that's a no go.

If I can't get the on the fly transcoding and streaming to go there might be an alterrnative that's running a cron (or in windows task) say every hour to convert movies and save them somewhere for later streaming. This will eat HD space though but will save CPU power when streaming.

This is really new for me so besides a good design I can also use some help on this streaming part. If someone has some insights I'm missing feel free to correct me.
