Hi!

Media Portal is simpl AMAZING!

But unless if a person ask on a forum for a free Media Center remplacement they don't find the site. And even if they find it they see a complex website.

Look the diffrence :

https://www.team-mediaportal.com/

and now look at

http://www.esnips.com/

or

http://www.musestorm.com/

Do you can of feel that esnip is more attractif to use the product then MP?

But in fact MP is a very better and interesting product.

THE MORE WORST ERROR OF MEDIA PORTAL WEBSITE IS THAT IT DON'T EVEN SHOW THE PRODUCT ON THE MAIN PAGE! SO PEOPLE JUST GO AWAY...

Why not add a flash video in the main page showing what MP can do... I'm sure people gonna jump in the download section.

By the way great work to the MP Team!

Don't worry - it's not like we do not know better ;)
    I don't like you examples either :p

Unless someone very skilled with webdesign and cms contributes some time such things are low priority at the moment.

Top idea sebdj, It would be great to give our comunitty's page a make over. Are you keen to do up some design ideas/css/graphics; I'm sure your contributions will be embraced by the MP web admins.

It's sure that the product is more important then the website. But the website is the only way of MP of promotion.

I see that MP have a great future.

But even my grand mother got to understand how to download it...

    You know what I mean?

Or just attract the people interrest by see a demo movie.

I only come to this website because of a user make a video and put it on youtube...

It should be review by the greatest website of software like download.com

I'm sure that some programmer still don't know about MP... So less plugins, less skin...etc...

In a open source software more you make promotion (no need to be expensive) more you have programmer or developer attention. So a better product.

I share your view; MP would benefit from a better/more up-to-date website. Was actually planing on starting a thread similar to your, asking if it would be a good idea to release this with the new release.

I also agree with chenks and rtv; it is not as important as further development and your examples are not the best (first is OK).

A cleanup of the site would also be nice (why are skins listed under plugins?)

A layout change/update in general is planed but Im a little busy with upcoming admin work on the servers for the moment so time is the limiting factor. The new template must be ported/adjusted to Joomla, VBulletin, MoinMoin-Wiki and some other scripts so dont expect this to be done in a week. ;)

If someone is willing to help on a more cleaned layout hes welcome to contact me.

Personally, in the longer run, I'd suggest segmenting the site based on the intended audience. One for those that just want to learn about the product, download the latest stable version, as well as find appropriate plugins and documentation. Then another one for those who wish to dwell deeper, learn about SVN and keep up with development.

Kind of like mozilla.org and mozilla.com do today.

The current pace of development might be too rapid for such a split at the moment, though.
