I have a massive (>10 seconds) delay of the audio compared to the video. When watching live TV I don't have any delay until I switch channels (turning tv off and on again fixes this for live tv), when scheduling a recording and trying to watch the recording I get this huge delay. If I directly open the recording with an other player such as mediaplayer classic or videolan client, it does have the same delay, so my guess is, that something goes wrong during the recording.
Any ideas what goes wrong or what I could try to fix this?

oo that's an odd one.
i take it it's fine for watching DVD's and downloaded avi's?

have you checked the default audio device is correct?
updated the soundmax drivers? I see you have an nvidia chipset motherboard, get the audio drivers form nvidia rather than asus.
Also make sure in control panel (not media portal config), Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio tab. That the Default device is the SoundMax HD Audio
You can try ticking "use only default devices" too.

let us know how you get on..

    oo that's an odd one.

Agreed, if this is affecting recordings then you have a core problem with sound not being handled correctly by the windows OS.

Driver settings do sound likely, rather than any codec issue.

-Watching live tv, downloaded avis and dvds works fine

-the audio drivers are the newest (I did not find any audio drivers for my soundcard from nvidia directly only from asus, my mainboard manufacturer)

-Audio device was correctly setup, is the only device and "use only default devices" was checked as well

-recording in another program (Cyberlink PowerCinema) works fine as well

    I'm grateful for any ideas

Some more info that may help track this down.

I watched a program live and recorded it at the same time. In the live recording the audio was fine, in the recording it has the problem.

hmmm so its ONLY the Media portal recording that has this problem?

in the tv section change the recording from ts to mpg and see if it helps.

also i'd like you to try this, get gspot (GSpot Codec Information Appliance) drag the ts and/or mpg recorded file into gspot and copy down the audio info.

try choosing another disk for recording onto (if you have one) even if it's a slower disk and see if that makes any difference (better or worse)

You should DEFINITELY have more that one audio device. the audio package for nvidia on your motherboard is here:
    nForce Driver
I got this by going to this page
    Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
    and choosing these options
    nvidia.gif

Ok, big :sorry: from my part.

It looks like only one recording did have a problem, the rest of the recordings seem fine and if I do a recording now it is fine as well. After the recording with the problem, I had setup ffdshow to delay audio which resulted in the audio being out of sync in all the other recordings as well, after removing this the audio is in sync again.

I don't know what the problem with the one recording with the sync problem was, but as long as it does not repeat it doesn't matter to me.

    Thanks for the help anyway.

    yay for fixed.
    no problem.

though perhaps do some tests, pick a channel that showing hi def and/or surround sound and try recording that.

Hm, ok, it happened again. It's really strange, it seems when I'd like to record a movie I actually am going to watch there is a time shift and if I just test, there isn't :(

I updated the nforce drivers but those do not include an audio driver.

The gspot utility returns the following information if I record with TS:
    File Type: MPEG-2 Transport Stream
    Mime Type: video/mp2t

I also have a recording with mpg format that has the same problem
    MPEG-2 Program Stream << {1 vid, 1 aud}
    Audio:
    MPEG-1 Layer 2
    0xc0: 48000Hz 256kb/s tot, Stereo

The channels I'm trying to record are basic, analog channels (no high def)

    oo wierd.
ok do you have access to another computer?
does the mpg movie you have that has out of sync sound, still have out of sync sound on another computer?

I'll see if i can dig up the sound driver for you
ok, i have it on my hard drive, i shall PM a link to it for you. the file is called
    4.62_nforce_audio_winxp2k_international_whql.exe

    other things to try:
is it every channel, random channel or just certain channels (do experiments to prove this)
Does it only go out of sync if the computer is recording for a long time (so 15 min tests work fine, but movies don't)
is their a third factor that triggers the problem (scheduled virus scan, defrag, watching a channel or video whilst recording)

    good luck sir!
