MCE "Clone" Remote (1 Viewer)

I bought a clone MCE Remote on Ebay. It works pretty well with Windows Media Player but the Play/Pause button has no interaction with MediaPortal Videos. It controls volume and allows pretty easy navigation by the up and down buttons, etc.

I have tried both the MCE setting under Remotes and Selecting No Remote at all. With No Remote set in MediaPortal, I found a two key combination that will work as a Play/Pause but it is less than ideal.

I really need to figure out how to the Play/Pause button to work or allow another key to perform that function.

I am bit lost about how to do this. I see there are plugins that allow the Remote to issue Keyboard commands, which the Spacebar would work for this basic step. But is there a straightforward way to take the MCE option "adjust" it so I can get my clone Remote to behave properly.

Hi Jim,

I wish it could be that easy.

It is a "Wuhan" special. Seriously it is a typical barebones consumer electronics copy from China. It was only US$14 so I suppose I should not expect much.

I have nothing but a very simple sheet that explains what the buttons should do. For the most part with Windows Media Player it does what it is supposed to do.

If this will end up being an exercise in extreme frustration I will stick with the two-button sequence to Pause and resume play.

aah yes, the dreaded Wuhan Special. These are a common model. I used to have one, and tried running it through every IR control modifier I could find (girder, eventghost, hip, intelliremote... I think I even tried Lirc). Couldnt get it mapped. Totally useless.

Im not saying there's not a way to do it. Just that I wasted a hell-load of time/effort trying to do it . In hindsight I wish I had just sprung for an mce-certified remotes available on ebay for $25 which work out of the box. (Which have since done)

You may want to save yourself some time and effort...

If you _do_ manage to get it working though, this remote model does come up with some regularity in the Forum. Please post your method - it would be useful to others

Funny thing, my two button action works on my Laptop but not on my PC (which will be connected to my TV).

Ah, crapper!

I will look into getting an MCE certified control. I can always deal with what this remote is capable/not capable of, it is my wife I do not want to get frustrated.

I discovered the Delta between the Laptop and Dell PC. The Laptop was set to tThe "Sceneo - Centarea Master Remote II" setting. It provides most of the core functionality.

To Pause/Restart I need to press the Right-Click Button then a small window appears where the Left-Click Button will Pause/Play.

I am just going to live with it. Not that big of an issue.

Do you use this ir receiver on your htpc from this remote that you say or you have other receiver??
I am trying to find one ir receiver to use with my harmony 555.

The remote came with a tiny USB IR Receiver.

I believe some one on the Amazon reviews said they bought the remote/ir just for the IR to use with their Harmony 880 Remote.
