Hi,

Quick question here for anyone who has one... I have MP working beautifully with the Microsoft Media Centre wireless keyboard and remote in Update 2 Rollup in XP Home, but I've noticed one strange thing:

the Volume +Up key doesn't work in MP?? It does on the remote, but not on the keyboard. The key backlights fine and appears to cause the USB receiver to flash, but it does not raise the volume like it should. All other buttons work perfectly on both the keyboard and remote.

Is this a MS driver issue/bug, an MP configuration mistake I accidentally did (I doubt it) or is this a defective keyboard?

Anyone else with one of these keyboard and MP running - I would love to hear if this Vol +Up key works or not for you.

thanks!! :)

Mine works fine on all key's

If it does not alter the volume using windows Media player neither, then it has a fault.

thanks :) I didn't think to try it with windows media player - I'll try it and see.

I just wanted to know if it was some kind of weird MP thing - or possibly some registry setting (which it appears MP leaves between uninstalls) because I was trying all sorts of things with previous remotes before I bought this MS one which worked completely out of the box (except for the keyboard's volume up key)...

hi again. It turns out that the keyboard that I was talking about (whose Volume+ Up key didn't work) still had the same trouble in Windows Media Player - so I took your advice and assumed it was a hardware malfunction and exchanged it for a new keyboard.

Only, get this, the new MCE keyboard's Volume - Down key doesn't work on the new one (though it backlights and causes the USB IR receiver to light red - so it technically works) in Media Portal - all with NO adjustments to XP or to MP.

I find it extremely unlikely that two separate keyboards would have similar but different hardware faults such as this. And this second one is from a different shipped batch to my retailer so it's not the same hardware batch.

Any ideas? Is there an updated Rollup 3 or something for the driver I can try?

Can anyone confirm that the MS MCE keyboard does indeed have ALL it's buttons work in MP? (P.S. the handheld MS MCE remote's vol up and down work fine)...

    I'm totally stumped... :(

I have the exact same problem. My MCE remote can control my logitech reciever just fine, but the keyboard wont. I have ofcourse tried to program it as it says on the back. No luck...

another problem: If i push the qwerty buttons fast (when typing normally) it send each command twice. It means that "abcdef" ends up with "aabbccddeeff". Very anoying... Can this might be a driver problem?

    Hi

I also have an MCE keyboard and Remote control. I have a simlar problem that my Volume - did not work on the keyboard however everything was fine on the remote control.

This problem was not only in MediaPortal but also in other Windows XP Pro applications such as Windows Media Player.

I currently use Media Player 11 and decided to down grade to a previous version. It did not work so don't bother trying to use this solution.

So here's the fix or at least my fix which is not perfect but still it's better than nothing.

Teach your MCE keyboard Volume - the remote code from your MCE Remote controls Volume - button.

Those of you who perhaps don't know how to do this you can download the MCE Keyboard User Manual here:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/3/0/330b80b7-1fd2-4c92-a864-89b0ee4fe728/MCE_Keyboard.pdf

This solved the problem for me, I hope it will also solve the problem for you :)

    Yogiman!
