I just installed some 5.1 on my system. but the problem is that with the remote vol control on my MCE remote is controlling the WAVE volume not the Master volume. Normally this wouldn't matter but for some strange reason this only effects the center and subwolfer volume. I am using ffdshow for audio and I can't find anything about configuring MP to select which Vol to control with the remote

Outside MP the vol on the remote dose control the Master Vol. I have tried removing the Vol+ and Vol- inside MP but now it dosen't do anything. If there a way to let the vol buttoins ide the default windows setting and not MP's

BTW my audio is a onboard c-media 5.1

Solved it. I used MCE replacement plugin. but just deleted the Vol+ and Vol- and now it works.

I did have a minor problem of my direction keys entering twice . So I deleted the up,down, left, right and ok keys. Now it is working again.

If I understand you correctly, you can fix this with:
Setup -> General -> Volume settings -> Control: Master Volume

    Arrrr! You are right.

Never looked there, I was looking at the remote settings since it was remote related and finding nothing. This solved all my problems. I can now switch back to the internal MCE remote settings again. Thank you :D
