MCE remote issue (1 Viewer)

Yes I know, another MCE issue.

I've Googled as much as I can to resolve this, I've followed several threads and tried out the suggestions but I still haven't managed to get a resolution to the issue.

I have 2 media boxes, one in the living room which is the main one, Media Portal 1.7.0 is installed and works spot on. It has an RC6 MCE remote and all the buttons work properly. In the log, when it loads I see this:

Code:
[2014-04-26 18:35:02,747] [Log  ] [MPMain  ] [INFO ] - MCE: Initializing MCE remote
[2014-04-26 18:35:02,877] [Log  ] [MPMain  ] [INFO ] - MCE: Found: \\?\hid#irdevicev2&col01#2&2818a073&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}
[2014-04-26 18:35:02,880] [Log  ] [MPMain  ] [INFO ] - MCE: Using: \\?\hid#irdevicev2&col01#2&2818a073&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}
[2014-04-26 18:35:02,912] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - MAP: using default mappings for Microsoft MCE
[2014-04-26 18:35:02,915] [Log  ] [MPMain  ] [INFO ] - MCE: MCE remote enabled

Simple, right? It finds the device, uses it and all's well.

Our other media box in the kitchen I've been setting up recently with the same version of MP and the MCE remote doesn't work properly. The arrow buttons work, OK button, volume, channel up/down and the numbers but nothing else responds so no guide, back button (which is the important one) or anything else.

This uses a Hauppauge tuner WinTV-NOVA-TD-500 (Model 289) which has its own remote and a connector on the back of the card to plug the IR receiver into. Using the Hauppauge remote (which also says it's MCE compatible but isn't marked RC6) gave the same results - only the above buttons do anything.

I have another spare MCE receiver and remote from a different card that I use in the media box in the lounge, so I decided to switch to this one instead. So having read several (many) threads on here, I took the advice to disable the Hauppauge IR receiver, I've been through all the devices looking for anything associated with the Hauppauge IR receiver and disabled them all. Its device id is 2040 and in the Media Portal log it doesn't pick it up - so I expected the MCE remote to work properly but it still doesn't. What I see now is this:

Code:
[2014-04-28 01:14:49,751] [Log  ] [MPMain  ] [INFO ] - MCE: Initializing MCE remote

1784 is the ID of the attached receiver. I don't understand why it's finding 4 of them and not 'using' any - presumably this is why it's fallen back to just the basic buttons but I can't figure out what to do next. Since I started composing this message I've reduced the list of 'found' devices to 1, but it still doesn't say it's 'using' it and still doesn't work properly.

Both RC6 remotes work perfectly on the media box in the lounge. Both remotes give only basic functionality on the media box in the kitchen.

I've removed MP and reinstalled, removed drivers that aren't needed, none of these things help.

So I'm flummoxed now. Is there a way to 'force' MP to use one of the MCE devices it finds? Any other suggestions whilst I still have hair left that I've not pulled out?

TIA

Daz

    I can only suggest format the pc and start again, it often fixes hard to fix problems :) You could do an image bacup in win7, so you could restore bac if it doesn't wor
