Hello Everyone,
I just got my MCE remote, updated WinXP Pro, plugged in the reciever where is recongnized and installed drivers and said it was ready to go. I started MP clicked on it and tried the remote but nothing happened, no response at all, the LED on the reciever lights up when I hit a button so I know its getting signal but it isn't responding. I tried upgrading to 0.2.0.4 but that didn't help, I also checked the box to add MCE remote in the remote section of configuration. PLEASE HELP. I'm very new to this

:(

The first thing you need to do is tell us your OS. XP Home doesn't support the remote out of the box, you need to do some tweaking.

Now, if you are in windows (not MP) can you move the highlight around the screen with the remote arrow keys (just like you were using the keyboard arrows)? If so, then we have to dig deeper. If not, then your windows install isn't picking up the remote at all.

Get back with these answers and we can go from there...

    ok, its ALL my Fault!!!
I decided to try using my TV remote pointed at the receiver and the LED still lit, so I came to the conclusion that the LED picks up ANY IR signal not just from the MCE remote. I decided to try reinstalling the drivers (since I upgraded MP) and try again (also new batteries). and it worked!!!!! I am not sure if the batteries or the driver fixed the problem, but it worked.
thank you very much for the help or I would have never figured it out

Glad it's all good. Once you are happy with that and feeling confident, you could even try experimenting with the MCE replacement plugin. It's quite easy to set up and gives you a LOT more options. Then again, if you are happy with the way things are now, it may not be worth it for you.

What drivers are you using? My MCE remote stopped responding in the same way a couple of days ago.

all I did was disconnect the reciever, delete the drivers, reboot, then plug in the reciever so it would be found and the driver would be reinstalled again. no special drivers other than an up to date XP Pro. here is a copy of my device manager if that helps. I think changing the batteries may have made the difference even though the LED on the remote would light up when I press a button.
