Media Portal Do I want it? (1 Viewer)

My goal is to get high quality video from my computer to my TV.

Unfortunately I have XP Pro on my main computer and not Windows media center addition. I do not wish go through the pain of upgrading to media center or Vista.

I have an Xbox 360 which works only with media center or Vista. For a second I thought media portal would do the trick, but I read some posts and I guess it does not work with Xbox. So does Media Portal give me any other options to get content to my TV?

Currently, I convert stuff to MP4 files and play them over my tv from my Ipod but lose a lot of quality.

My computer is on the other side of the house, how do I play content on my computer on my TV without the Xbox (or some other hardware device) at the TV that MP could interact with?

Try this thread... I haven't read it to the end yet.. but am considering an Xbox 360 as a client for the grandkids' play room. My other option is to build a stripped down client computer to just run kids movies and PBS Kids programming.

It seems Media Portal is more for setting up a computer to work directly with a TV kind of like a super Tivo. I think TVersity is more what I am looking for.
