Ever considered if we could run MP on the mono platform, trying to get MP off crappy windows and onto linux would seem viable if we could use the Mono...

You could start by porting Direct X / DirectShow to Linux

Seriously, by the time you get MP working on Linux (see above post for somewhere to start) you'll have MythTV up and running and loving it. 8)

Why not use openGL, works pretty fine across all platforms?

DirectShow & different DVB-T/C/S driver architecture, at least those two will stop the porting to Linux even if OpenGL would be used.

porting to linux at this stage would require a totally new project... Open Source is not always synonymous with Linux, and Windows can guarantee more compatibility with Tuner cards / Vga cards than Linux can hope for at the moment...
