media portal loads, but nothing comes up... (1 Viewer)

I just installed a fresh windows and installed my drivers and got around to media portal, I install it and it goes well until I try to launch the program, it comes up with that annoying loading pop up like normal and then that disappears, again like normal but instead of media portal opening I get nothing and have to delete the process in ctrl alt del . This happens when I load both mediaportal.exe and configuration.exe, I have reinstalled mediaportal and reinstalled visual c++ stuff with the same result. What is going on?

is this right, I'm a bit slow this morning but it seems to open configuration.exe when I click mediaportal link, because its the first time opening the program or what?? is this bit naffed up too?

Hi,
Not sure what it could be, you should add system specification(hw, os, etc)
Nothing much shows up in log & no errors either so, did you start it from MediaPortal logs collector(if not try that)?

I did start it from the log collector (watchdog.exe ?) that's what I used anyway.

my OS is win xp pro service pack 3, The disk I got is already sp3 on install so the only patches are just small fixes from the windows update.
My system is gigabyte motherboard phenom II quad core 3 ghz 6mb l3 cache, 2 1gb sticks of OCZ ddr2 800 ram, 8800 gts 640mb, 2 sata II maxtor hard drives and some old dvd drive from my last system.

Did you set required folders and codecs etc. in config?

IIRC, config will allways open if something is lacking.

I would if it would open, Right now this is what it looks like is happening

first time running media portal, it opens up configuration.exe , after that loading spash/ pop up it should come up with the config window, but nothing comes up, it just does nothing... configuration.exe is open but nothing, and the same happens when I go to the mediaportal directory and open the mediaportal.exe from there, so I think it's a problem with something that they both use, I have no idea I just want this fixed nothing but trouble since I decided to upgrade, such a pain in the ass getting things to work, you think It could be something in the registry?

You are not alone. I had the very same problem. I used a "special, ripped, updated" version of XP. I guess you do as well

With an ordinary version, updated trough the usual way, tedious and timeconsuming, with several restarts, finally made it.
