whew that was hard. I'm sorry I don't have all the information, I filled in as much as I could!

here's the deal, i just installed a fresh brand new clean install of mediaportal 1.0. everything went pretty smoothly. I used the tv server, and scanned for channels, everything worked fine, I did the media portal configuration, set my folders and various options. that saved ok...

but when I launched mediaportal, it ran through the startup, said loading directx, skins, ui etc... and then nothign. I see mediaportal in the system tray, but I see the vista desktop. but it's not responding, as if media portal is running, in full screen, and it's transparent.

I killed the mediaportal process, then changed the config so that it doesn't run in full screen. this time it launches, and the program is windowed, but all I see is a blank white screen. I can access the menus on the window, but don't see anything but the blank white screen in the window...

If you need more information, please let me know I will do what I can! I really would like to try this again (haven't used media portal in like 2 years!)

I did a search but didn't find anyone with the same experience. my log is attached (I hope i did this correctly)...

thanks in advance!

ah thank you for locating the error for me!

but how can this be? surely a 6800 should have ample memory (especially considering minimum requirements are only a 5200!)

are there any settings I can change in media portal or should I be tweaking settings for my nvidia card?

Main: Video memory left: 424 MB

your showing above, that should be ample.

Main: Video memory left: 1017 MB

mine, our specs are not that different, take it your graphics is 256mb memory, wondering if one of your memory sticks is giving up the ghost.

have you enabled a lot of plugins, or another program running at same time, that could be holding onto directx memory.

well i'm running a memtest now, so far everything is good... and this is a clean install, no extra plugins, and nothing else is running other than utorrent...

anything else I can try? are there any settings in media portal that would cause it to hang like that out of memory when it clearly isn't?

    Hi,
Are you using remote desktop or something similar(d3dapp: Graphic adapter 'RDPDD Chained DD' is using driver version '7.15.11.8206', it should have shown like mine does d3dapp: Graphic adapter 'NVIDIA GeForce 6600')?

    Regards

ah yes as a matter of fact I was, I INSTALLED it using RDP... but I RAN it directly on the machine... i'm sure i messed things up somehow, do you know how I might change it back to read my nvidia?

thanks for your help! this sounds like it might be it!

    Hi,
Not sure what can go wrong when using remote desktop (only using Ultra VNC for remote operations here), but if you start your computer which has MP on it without using RDP does it say the same in log then?

    Hi,
There is one more thing you need to check & that is if you can select something else in MP Configuration(you need to use it in advance mode) -> General -> & @ bottom enable "Use screen selector etc", this will enable a dropdown menu where you can select where MP should run & check if you can enable the correct adaprter there.

    Regards
    Roy
