Hi,

I would like to use Mediaportal to play my audio files. The special thing about it is that I want to control Mediaportal by a different pc inside my LAN. Is there any possibility to do that? Has Mediaportal something like a webserver built in so that it can be controlled by another machine in the LAN?

Thanks,
Sebastian.

    Hello and welcome Sebastian

MP itself hasn't got a webserver built in. It can play music from remote shares though. You could consider using RDP, VNC or similar to control the MediaPortal PC.

Thank you for your fast reply.

Is there any tutorial you could recommend me for that?

For RDP/VNC, or for playing music from remote shares?

For remote shares, you just configure the share as a folder as described in the wiki:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...aPortal_Configuration/3_Music/1_Music_Folders

    For RDP, I recommend TeamViewer:
    http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/index.aspx

Free for non-commercial use, and can carry audio over the connection. A quick google will locate a tutorial - it should not be too complex to set up. If you find that you don't like TeamViewer, choose other software from the list here:

Hi Sebastian, i could also recommend the plugin 'xptunes' here you can control mp via another windows pc to play different songs. It is a windows sidebar application. Also there exist plugins like ampdroid, ipimp where you can control mepo over an iphone or android device.

Imho this is MUCH to complicated.
There is a UPNP Renderer plugin available for MediaPortal. Install this plugin on your MediaPortal which you want to control remotely.
Now this plugin will be available in your network as UPNP Renderer. Now you have the possibility to say in your Windows Media Player or some other music program / UPNP client which is UPNP capable that the chosen music should be played on your MediaPortal system.

Alternatively you could also set up your Windows Media Player on every machine you want to do this that it is controllable remotely if you don't want to use MediaPortal as UPNP Renderer. Somewhere here in the forum you'll find a description of this by me. Have to put this in my signature some time. :p
