mediaportal help with wint tv 1600 setup (1 Viewer)

I have windows xp home edition ,a hauppauge win tv 1600 tuner card, the cable box output wire is connected to tuner card in computer, I run channel scan on mediaportal software and only tunes in channel 3. what settings are needed to scan all channels from cable box. I've tried several setups, single seat and inbuilt tv engine same thing happens. Any help would be appreciated.
