Guys i'm at my wits end and very close to giving up and buying MCE. It seems like every time i get something working ten other things break. Problem as follows.

Area: Media Portal Program
MediaPortal Version: 0.2.0.3 (2006-07-29)
MediaPortal Skin: Razor
Windows Version: Windows XP (SP2)
.NET CLR Version: 2.0.50727
DirectX Version: 4.09.00.0904 (9.0c)
Audio Codec: MPA Decoder Filter
Video Codec: MPV Decoder Filter
CPU Type: Intel Pentium D - 3.00GHz
Memory: 1 GB
Motherboard: D945GPM (Intel Corporation)
TV Card Model: Dvico FusionHDTV Dual
TV Card Type: Hardware
TV Card Driver: 3.41
Video Card Model: Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT (256 MB)
Video Card Driver: 91.31
Video Card Resolution: 1280x720
Video Render Type: -
Audio Card Model: HDA Digital X-Mystique 7.1
Audio Card Driver: 5.12.1.46
Synopsis::

On fresh install MediaPortal will not detect any TV channels. Even though the Dvico program will find and display all channels fine.

MediaPortal will also crash randomly and upon exiting it's stays running in the background using approx 50k of memory.

I managed to get one install working with the tuner but shortly after all my codecs stuffed up and needed reinstalling. After the re-install MediaPortal refused to detect any working channels. I've tried using the previous settings from the install that worked but if i try to turn the My TV on then it gives a blank error saying 'My TV' and hangs the computer.

I am using the external USB connector, i am using the XP dual tuner fix, i have got the latest drivers for all of the components.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have your card, so I can give you just generic directions.
I think that when you say fresh install you mean that you have reinstalled xp, the drivers, the OS updates and mediaportal, no other software is installed. Only in this way you can have a clean environment. I had many problems that got resolved in a clean environment. If you want to get the channels back from your last configuration you just have to copy Mediaportal DB folder. The channels are stored there. And then check with the setup program that all the channels are mapped to the card.
If in both install mediaportal is the same version or nearly same version this should work.

And don't give up to frustration, MP is not always easy but once it works is great! MCE on the other hand is easy in the beginning but for many thing sucks! (IMHO)

Thanks for a quick response.

By fresh install i mean that i have tried both a complete re-install of OS, drivers and software, and that failing i have also tried a reinstall of MediaPortal multiple times.

I'm not running 64bit XP.

I have tried (from a fresh install) copying the database folder over and whilst this will populate the MediaPortal configuration settings with the correct channels, they will not work under My TV and will cause MediaPortal to hang (and XP as a result) upon access.

The key issue here is that if i do a fresh install with all the latest drivers and patches, the Dvico software will pickup and display all the channels for Perth WA (my location) fine, but MediaPortal will not find any channels be it through the wizard detection or through manual configuration.

As a side note, on random instances i get a 'graph not populated' (or similar) error, or an extremely lengthy delay in accessing the card->edit dialog in the configuration window.

Are you sure that your Hardware is not to blame. I had similar problems and it turned out to be faulty memory.

Try running memtest and prime95 to make sure it is really Mediaportal.

I would doubt that faulty memory would cause a problem as specific not being able to sense correct channel information.

The rest of the system functions fine and the memory has been used in a previous system. If there were other symptoms then i would test the individual hardware.

Have you cheked out the log files? They should give a clear indication of what MP was doing just before the crash.

Look in the /logs folder of your MP directory. The Mediaportal.log and error.log will be the most informative...

Please post your log file to: http://mp.pastebin.com/ and then add the link here. It is just guesswork otherwise. MP Configuration does also write to the log, so go and start a channel search and paste the log.

Ok i just un-installed MediaPortal, and re-installed. Then patched to 0.2.0.3. Then copied over my database directory (which did not seem to make any difference to any settings).

Running the config utility i navigated to television->capture cards->Dvico FusionHDTV Dual 1->edit

Everything stalls for just over a minute and i get the edit card dialog.

If i run an Autotune for my area, it reports scan completed and scan finished with no additional information on any channels found. Signal strength is 100%.

After completion the television->tv channels is blank. The Dvico program can still receive all channels fine.

A link to the logs from the above steps is attached. (or at least it would be if the pastebin was responding at all).

I shall post the error.log inline and wait until it decides to respond to paste the mediaportal.log
