MediaPortal player will NOT play anything! Please help. (1 Viewer)

Right, so I have been building an HTPC with an ITX mobo. Got Mediaportal installed ages ago but cannot get the built in player to work with anything! I installed all the proper drivers as the guides say and have made sure the config points the player to use the correct decoders.

Is this some kind of bug because I cannot understand it. Every other media player even the crappy windows media player plays these videos fine.

I get the the error somthing like "Cannot play this file: Video: Mpeg4 Audio: AAC

This happens with ALL media files except when I play DVDs. They play fine through the in built player. I really cannot understand this and have tried EVERYTHING.

Someone must be able to shed some light on this?

I think easiest would be to install (UNLOCKED) SAF and ensure your setup is same as explained here:

I just figured out my problem. VMR9. My onboard ITX gfx does not support DirectX9. I think using VMR9 is a bit of a downfall for mediaportal. BSplayer plays things perfectly on my mobo.

Will buying a PCI gfx card which supports it solve my problem?

Full DX9 support is definitely required for MediaPortal.

Not 100% true. You dont need DX9 support if you use external video players

Back on topic, my ITX board only has a PCI slot. What PCI gfx cards support vmr9 ?

EDIT: Looks like a PCI GeForce FX 5500 is my best bet.

Media portal stopped playing

Hello everyone. I have been using media portal for some time. Out of no where when i start media potal and try to play a video/Movie it starts to load it goes back to Media portal screen.

Any help would be great

I had the same problem when playing videos. It would either tell me it is unable to play the file or keep going back to the main menu. I solved the problem by selecting the option to get the pc to automatically choose its decoder in the Advanced config.

Thx for the responce Where can I find that option? I went through MediaPortal Config but couldn't find it. I was going to reinstall everything but rather not. if you know what I mean.
