When I run Mediaportal, it constantly, like every few seconds of trying to scroll a menu, freezes for like 30 seconds before continuing. Any idea what could be causing this?

Having the same exact problem... if you watch the taskmgr, you can see Mediaportal using consistently around 15% CPU, and then when it hangs MP drops to 0% for the duration of the hang... and then it jumps back up to ~15%.

This is on a Phenom 8450 triple core w/ AMD 780g motherboard.

Did you run TVServer Setup program and enter DB password just after installation?

Also please follow guidelines and attach full logs. See my signature for more details :)

No I didn't, but I did do a "one click install" (so I figured the rest would take care of itself). Plus, I don't even need TV right now. I don't have a TV tuner in it atm. I did try to disable the TV plugin in the configutation program, but it still attempts to start the TV server on launch anyway.

Sorry about the logs... I was posting from a different computer at the time and wasn't able to post them. I'll get them this evening when I get home.

Try UNinstalling TVServer from Control panel and report back.

That fixes the problem ... unfortunately is not a solution to the problem, because it disable h.264 playback in the process, which I need.

So, what is the proper way of installing mediaportal for someone that has no desire for "TV" but wants to be be able to playback h.264 files?? It seems like pretty poor implementation to link the two together.

That fixed the problem for me as well, thanks!

    however comma
I will want TV functionality later - as soon as I obtain a HD PVR I intend to use the PC with my DirecTV box. So, I need a real solution as well.

They are not linked, you should still be able to play h.264 files with the correct codecs\hardware installed, see SAF by hoborg for more details.

If you do ask a question there, he will want your hardware specs, at least which graphics chip\card you are using and memory allocated to it, be aware auto setting in bios is usually no good for gpu memory performance.

I did a check of MP 1.36 x64 on Win11 and I can confirm, that the TV server correctly detects running MediaPortal.exe process.

maybe setting loglevel to debug might pinpoint the difference between normal and stuck? Preferable with as much disabled as possible also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything) maybe other programs competing for resouces?

I used to use the grabber but a few years back it disappeared on FreeSat DVBS. That is when I changed to EPG Collector. The extra benefit is that it collects from the Sky platform so it will give EPG for all the FreeSat channels plus the unencrypted movie channels on the Sky platform. It also allows me to pick the channels dedicated...
