I have made a fresh installation of Windows XP and latest version of mediaportal. When I try to start Mediaportal the startsekvens stops when Mediaportal is about to "Initializing DirectX". I have waited 10 minutes but all I can see is a blue screen with "Initializing DirectX". The installation was carried out without no problems. Have I missed any configuration settings or what´s the problem.

Have you checked your DirectX is working? Can't quite remember where you can test it - it's under the Display options in XP i think...

    Start MP in window mode ( not fullscreen ) and see if you have any msg behind the main window.

    Thank You, there was an Error message behind MediaPortal full, so that solved the problem.

    I have the same problem, but it happens only when I start Mediaportal on windows startup (and that is very important becouse mine it's not a real pc, but a standalone Mediacenter.

    It appears a message that says "This sample cannot run in a desktop window with the current display settings. ... MediaPortal has to be closed"

    So when I close and restart Mediaportal, it starts correctly. I tryed to set a delay time (10-20-30 seconds) but the problem lasts.

    Can I do anything for fix this problem? (for example test with any program if windows is fully loaded and after that, launch MediaPortal)

    Thank you all.

    You can use task scheduler in windows to start Media Portal delayed....i had this same problem...and that's how i fixed it
    Just make a new task and select new on the trigger tab to select "on start up" and then select 30 second delay.
    In the action tab select run an application browse to mediaportal.exe...

    Thanks, now I try.

    Configuration->General->Startup delay :)

    No, this is not right for me, becouse I want the startup delay only at the system boot. Not every time.

    This doesn't work....mediaportal is launched before that delay is in effect.

    Task scheduler "workaround" delays launching mediaportal completely...

    Make sure you turn off "autostart mediaportal on windows startup" in mp config
