Microsoft SQL Port 1433 Not Listening With Windows Firewall On (1 Viewer)

Hi All,

On my TV Server machine (Vista 32 Bit SP2), I have added to the exceptions tab under Windows Firewall TCP Port 1433 and UDP port 1434. When my firewall is turned on, my client machine (XP) cannot see the TV Server, however if I turn my firewall off, it can connect.

If I do a "netstat -an" I cannot see port 1433 listening.

Any ideas?

Regards

Graham

Allowing port 1433 will let TV-Server (and MediaPortal) connect to SQL Server, but for the MediaPortal client to connect to the TV-Server there would be other ports needed, I think (when you do the installation, there's some options you can check to automatically do the Windows Firewall configuration for TV-Server and the like). If those ports are still blocked (which they are, by the sounds of it) you'll need to find out what they are and unblock them.

Without having immediate access to my own setup, I'd suggest that the TV-Server log is probably the place to start (and maybe the MediaPortal client log) .... there would likely be entries in there about which ports the TV-Server is listening on (or which ports the client is trying to - unsuccessfully - connect to).

Cheers,
Craig

Hi Craig,

I appreciate the note.

I cannot see anything in the log files to suggest the TV Server or client is looking for port numbers.

The TV Server machine was setup as a "single seat installation", so I think you are corrrect in what you are saying about other ports which need to be added as exceptions - especially since the client connects when the firewall is turned off.

Keen to see what you find on your machine and report back.

Hi Craig,

After adding the port as per your thread and rebooting, it seems to have worked!!

Many thanks
