Hi All! I wanted to use an "old" portable as a mediaportal and i innstalled everything with no problems. However when starting up MediaPortal for the first time i saw that i have heavy flickering and Mediaportal is more or less unusable. Then i looked through the forums and i saw that a minimum requirement is at least 128 Mb on the graphics card. Is this why it is flickering so much? I guess the anwser is yes, but i want to know for sure before i give up on this portable!

Graphics card

Hi! I totally forgot to put in my post what kind of Graphics card i have.

I have a:
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5600 with 64Mb.

By the way its a:
Acer 1703 portable.
Pentium 4 2,6 Ghz
512 Mb RAM

I innstalled the Direct X 9 package i found on the Innstall / Essentials. It didnt give me any errors or anything, so i assumed it would be ok. But i have to check the specs on my Video card to see if it supports Dx9 or Dx8.1?

I successfully used MP (RC3) on a PIII 1Ghz with 64MB graphics card and 512MB ram for half a year. No problems, only the latest DivX was sometimes a little too much for my processor.

I think the minimal required should be lowered on the website.

Are you sure you''ve installed the right drivers for your videocard and chipset, so AGP/PCix functions correctly?

drivers

Hi! thanks for the replies.
I guess this a very novice question, but how do i know if i have innstalled the correct drivers? I mean everyting works fine, and everything have worked fine for two years. So why should the drivers not be correct? Could new drivers optimize? Is that it? So the graphics card work better?

    My CAR-PC uses onboard GeForce4:
with 16MB shared mem most skin pages produce 100% load
with 32MB MP is useable but doesn't run to nice

My obsolete PC is equipped with a Radeon 8500 - 64 MB:
This system runs well although it only supports DX 8.1

Your chosen skin and its destination resolution is the main factor for memory usage..

A 5600 is a DX9 card so its fine. You will still be able to install the newest drivers if you want to try them so it wont hurt.

Other than installing new drivers, are there any other things i can try to make it work? I also tried changing to another skin, but it didnt change anything..
