mixed clean skin --- MePo & SimpleMP (1 Viewer)

just got a question (sorry for my bad english)

i don´t know if that is ok, if i mix two skins together ?

when i started using MP, i liked the SimpleMP best, (its nearly MCE but not supported anymore) .. also the MePo skin was fascinating with its animations ...

at the moment, i use some parts from the MePoskin (the ani's) an the masks of simpleMP ... also changed the fonts (ComicSanMS) and the sizes (need that, couse the display of my HTPC is small) ...
change some path's (the simpleMP does not support the "home" function ...) clean up the background, and some logo-masks ...
and so on ...

till now, i didn't found the author of the MePo skin (who made that?), to ask him, if it is ok to use the MePo animations ... i know that MP is kind of open source ... but i don't wanna have trouble, using parts of another mans work (copyright?) ...

if somebody wants to see the output of my work, will be no problem to
post some screenshots (if that is ok?) ...

MePo was done by grassynoel.

As far as open source goes, the xml files are open sourced (GPL) while the graphic files remain in the copyright of the creator. So you will need the authors permission to use those in your own skin.

Usually skin authors will grant you that permission though as long as you ask nicely

öhm .. does anybody know if Mikael from sweden (he creats the simpleMP Beta3) is also the creator of the old simpleMP skin?

Hi polarie! Glad to hear that you like the SimpleMP skin. I am the author for all SimpleMP versions, and as I stated in the license text my graphics may be used, modified or copied free within the MP project (applies to all skin versions). Go ahead!

Would be nice to see what you will come up with! Can you share some screenshots?

And also, please note that most of the icons used in beta 2/beta 3 is created and copyrighted by Pit-tux (omallstars_13@hotmail.fr) at http://pit-tux.deviantart.com. If you would like to use those icons for your skin, please ask him first.

thx for your post and the information about Pit-tux ...

i'll try to post some screen shots the next days ... i only got 2 old pictures of the modified simpleMP screen here in my office made with a lousy camera from the beginning when i started to change some little things in your skin ...

one is a picture of the first not really clear (so don't look at the edges of the gif's ^^) MePo implement in the "home-function" (which was not supported in the first simpleMP) and one is the "normal menue" only with an ohter font/font-size (comic-sanMS -- i think it is smoother and fits very well)...

it is not much different to your basic simpleMP but i fixed some little things for the use in my HTPC @ home ... it is like the name YOU createt "simpleMP" ^^ and thats the reason why i like it so much .. it is simple, straight and clear ...

if i found the time again i lost last few weeks ago couse work, i'll try ur new simpleMP Beta 3 .. maybe i do not need the modification @ simpleMP anymore for me ..*smile*

but have a little problem ...

i just had installed the dbox03 plugin ... it works fine .. but in my polarie-II skin i have other font dimensions ..

not a big problem to reorganize the fonts in the mask (so that's what i thought )

yesterday i tried all evening to resize and recoordinate the fonts in the mask of the dbox plugin, but the field "TV on" and the field "timeshift" does not fit with the fonts ... i searched all dbox*.xml files for the coordinates but could not found any ...

could anybody navigate me ?

the red ringmarks show u what i meant in the last post ...

pic "home" is animated (thx again @ noel) and MePo "flies" in ... most mask's are still from Mikaels SimpleMP (also big thx), but modified ...

so u see i hold it very very clean and simple .. no logos - nothing ... i like it this way and style ...

by using my projektor it is better to recognize all sympols, fonts a.s.o. ...

- bring in the Channel-logos (MPI doesn't work any idea how that can be fixed "quick"? )
- bring "back" again my online-dvd-archive with film-wallpapers, movie-content etc.
- bring "back" again my online-cd-archive with covers, names

a lot more little things to do ... but don't have them present ...

have all my bought DVD's and my CD's on my HomeServer but to fast upgrading to 0.2.2 stable .. hmm all data's gone ...

but nevermind, i'll make them new with better resoluted pictures ..

hmmm not perfekt but worx ... fixed the MPI-Channel-Logo problem by using an older version of the channel logos

brought them in without the MPI automation ....
