Media Portal is a great program, I just cannot get it to play mkv files, I've tried it on two different systems to no avail.

I've tried installing ffdshow_beta4_rev1685_20071206, vsfilter.2.37, ffdshow-rev1746_20080104, Halli Splitter, all on a clean newly installed xp system.

I'm still going to use the system, but I would really love to get mkv working.

vlc and kmplayer play the files fine. Here is the media info

Check with filmerit for any filter errors, then try a file in gspot and see what filters it connects to.

VS filter is set to autorun in haali's config.

    checked and rechecked

VS filter is set to autorun in haali's config.

I checked filmerit and had a few audio errors, one with the AC3 filter I thought might be causing the issue. I completely uninstalled all my audio drivers and updated with all new drivers, this fixed filmerit, still no run mkv files.

As for Gspot I'm not sure what to do this this file, as it cannot use mkv files.

Any other suggestions? I've going to try to get windows media player to play mkv files and see if that does anything.

I can send an updated error log but it's the same error.

I ran MatrokaDiag and this was the result.

so the hint was the number 80004005, I googled mkv directshow and 80004005 and it brought me to the link:

    http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/18579p1.html

which explained I needed DirectShow FilterPack 3.0, downloaded and ran the filter for mkv and it solved the problem.:D
