Hello all,

I did a search and could not find a similar thread, although there is one named similarly. Some Mkv's will crash media portal, and I can't seem to figure out why that is.

Thank you

    Hi
Your log doesn't contain any playback of mkv's, so Open MP Configuration -> General -> set log level to debug, close that one & start MP -> Play a mkv which fails & collect all logs again.

    Regards
    Roy

    ronilse,

I am still somewhat new and unsure that I was doing the watch dog procedure correctly. I did as you suggested and here is a new log.

When I use watch dog, I go to action and select the pre tests which work fine. Then I select the second one to launch MP but it doesn't do it so I manually do it then exit and click on the third action. Is there something wrong with the procedure? Do I need to go in manually and do all the listed steps or is watch dog actually doing what it lists when I select an action?

Anyways, thank you for responding and hopefully this set of logs are correct.

I have the same problem with my set up. I put it down to the dts audio in some files. What is odd though, is that the same file plays in mediaportal on a neighbour's computer. I use AC3fiter, and core, but I've tried other combos with no luck.

Interesting. Can you post your system specs? I would like to compare to see what might be the problem. Maybe it's our audio hardware? How do you connect to your audio system? For the time being I am using just an audio jack to a set of pc speakers. I am thinking maybe people with digital audio that pass it onto receivers have an easier time with this. This is of course if it is the audio dts track being the problem.

Anyways, I will be checking all of my audio settings/codec setup. Please keep me informed of any updates you encounter.

    Thanks

As if by magic, the Mkv files are now playing.

I had another problem, my audio randomly went out. It was suggested that I delete a configuration file, and also re-install the Realtek audio driver.

The reinstalling of the audio driver fixed the audio problem, but it could have been either of those things that fixed may have fixed the mkv crashes.

    Hope this helps.

That happens to my creative audigy card as well, only way I could get it to "stick" was to use the hidden full admin account to install all the drivers

Since then no problem, but just to confirm the weird happening, I did reinstall Vista from DVD, worked fine until SP1 added, then immediately packed up again.

This was all done with "run as administrator" in a full admin account.

Hmmm, interesting. If my audio drops out I will try this. Vista is odd.

I forgot to mention, in addition to the Mkv working, there is an error message that pops up. "A decoder for the new track could not be found. Track type: SRT/UTF-8"

I have no idea what this means, but I am assuming that after you had suggested to delete my mediaportal.xml file, the configurations I had were reset. Don't really care about the error as the video and audio works now. I originally had setup mediaportal with a guide I found on AVS forum. Perhaps some of those initial setting were what prevented the certain Mkv's from not playing and crashing mediaportal.

Or maybe since the error has to do with audio it was the drivers...Atleast I have it pinned down to two possible things

Either way, thank you for your assistance.

Hi there - this is interesting. I use Vista 64 bit (as does my neighbour). We both have Realtek audio cards (on board). I use SPDIF, and he uses optical. One big difference is that he uses the default MS drivers - I use the Realtek ones. I'll try rolling back to see if that helps...
