So, heres the deal... I recently replaced my very old athlon system with a snazzy Intel core i7 920 system. Since then I've doing a lot of exploring/testing in the multimedia realm. I've attempted to do some research on programs prior to installing them as I don't want to muck up my new computer. I currently have installed -- XBMC, KMPlayer, MPClassic, Winamp....I tried and nuked Boxee, VLCPlayer, GOMPlayer. I just ran across Mediaportal. So I'm thinking hmmm, do I need to check it out too ? My initial impression is it most closely resembles XBMC but might be a little more oriented towards a windows or computer environment (vs xbox etc) than XBMC ? Anyway, about the questions. I checked out the install guide post in this forum https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/mediaportal-install-guide-49685/ and noted that there are a number of recommended "decoders" that I'm instructed to install. Now I'm assuming that quite a few of these are already on my computer. I believe that @ the very least the haali splitter, ffdshow, and ac3filter are present either system wide or via XBMC or KMplayer or MPClassic so what I'm wondering is if theres really a necessity to install these or whether Mediaportal can/will find current installs and use them ? Also, when I choose the haali splitter in KMPLayer it notifies me its incompatible with my win7 themes and switches to a "basic" theme... is there a compatibility issue with haali and win7 or is the KMPlayer version not up to date ? Assuming I am required to install the recommended decoders, even though they're already present in other scripts, am I risking causing issues/conflicts ? TIA for any assistance... P.S. A few specs in case there are known issues members could clue me in on. Core i7 920 quad core Win7 64 bit Nvidea GeForce GTX 260
