More than one external player & file queues (1 Viewer)

I have lots of congratulations for the MP team and also 2 requests:

1) It would be great if we could use different external players according to the file type that's going to be played. I use mplayer to play all my movie files, but this functionality (I'm thinking about the Playmee Meedio plugin) would allow me to run mplayer with some parameters for avi files, some other parameters for mpgs, etc.

2) Is there any way to pass more than 1 file to the external player? I'd like to pass the whole MP playlist to it so I could switch between the queued files or simply play them all without having to go back to MP and select the next one.

Thank you very much for this impressive (and, thank God, open source) software!

agree - ability to pass a playlist would be great

if we could pass a playlist to an external player that would also allow folks who do not have a fully directX 9 compatible video card to use the software because the interface still works, but the buitl in video player fails. if we could pass the video playlist off to an external player then we could still use the new version of the software.

Yes, that would be a great extra benefit. What I would really like to see in MP is the Meedio's Playmee plugin functionality, it is simply great, here's some info:

Playmee
Official Website

Note that it can pass a {queue} parameter to the player and optionally a separator char between the filenames.

If you just run player.exe {queue} it will translate to:

player.exe "movie1.avi" "movie2.avi" ... etc.

And if you use a separator char, a pipe for example, it will do this:

player.exe "movie1.avi" | "movie2.avi" | "movie3.avi" ... etc.

In my opinion, a Playmee-like functionality is all that MediaPortal needs to replace Meedio definitely.

that would be a cool featuer so people who watch there recorded shows can watch it with windows media player and for the rest of the movies it uses Mplayer or some othere video player

but the osd and and controls should work for those players aswell

I use Girder to control MediaPortal and mplayer. When mplayer is not running, Girder sends the remote commands to MediaPortal. If mplayer is playing, Girder detects it and instead of sending commands to MediaPortal, it sends them to mplayer. This way there's no need for MP to control the external player.

oh but does the osd work? it would be very cool if it supported some other media players and works the same way as MP does now

MPlayer has its own OSD features. I think that completely integrating an external player to MP would be a difficult task. I'd be happy if I could just use different players based on file extensions and with queue support.

yea i understand. the only good thing about intergrating Mplayer or some othere media player is that u dont need to install codecs they come with there own and work good. So when someone installs MP they dont have to install so many codecs it just runs all files fine. but i see its a hard thing to do so i guess it wount be added.
