I've got a pretty old gigabyte board that has 8 SATA, so assume they still make some similar. Never had a prob with their boards either,

I just got an ECS G43T-M, actually for my MediaPortal HTPC. Intel chipset, comes with 6 Sata's and the 4500HD graphic chipset w/both HDMI (cool!) and VGA connectors.

Works great as an HTPC MB since it has audio over HDMI and supports S3 standby (WOL etc) which might well be good for your application. Relatively cheap too.

not looking for a MB for HTPC, im looking for a MB for my file server as i've run out of connections to add hard drives

I understand - I threw the HTPC bit in as an aside, but Note, it's cheap and has 6 SATA ports as well as a dual IDE (single connector).

I've just gone and rebuilt my server using a MSI G45M Digital which has 6 sata ports, paired it with a Pentium E5200 and it's working really well.
