Movie database grabbing wrong cover art from IMDB (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I'm having problems with the movie database grabbing the wrong cover art for movies from IMDB.

An example of this is The Mask (1994) - the one with Jim Carrey. When I refresh the movie info it grabs the right plot, cast etc but gets the cover art from The Mask of Zorro. I've checked the IMDB website and it has the correct cover art.

Other examples are Jumanji (shows a cover art image of a two pack of DVDs with Jumanji and Zathura) and The Ring 2 (shows some weird cover art of an animation DVD boxset).

I have seen this behaviour on 0.1.3, 0.2 RC2 and 0.2 RC3.

same problem here (using 0.2. rc2)

the cover art isn't grabbed from imdb (they only have very small pictures) but from amazon. that also explains why the description / actors and that stuff is correct but the cover isn't.

my example:
movie: the rock
imdb url: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117500/
cover: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/im...03-9435832-7433445?_encoding=UTF8&n=130&s=dvd

the cover is from the dvd "schoolhouse rock" which is the first search result when you do a DVD-search for "the rock" at amazon.com

edit:
just found out: when you do a DVD-search (as above) "the rock" is in 5. place. when you do a "general" amazon.com search, "the rock" DVD is the first result (which would lead to the right cover)

That explains it - just tried a couple of my problem movies and you're right - the Amazon searches are the problem.

I guess I'll just have to replace the cover art manually for the ones that don't work.

It would be great if there was some kind of universal ID tag for a movie that everyone (IMDB, Amazon, Rotten Tomatoes etc) could reference.

It's not a bug it's working as designed.
Multiple tumbs are pulled down from Amazon for better quality images.
You just choose the best picture to suit the film.

Unless it's a brand new film not released on DVD etc then you'll have no issues.

    dman,

I don't see an option to choose the best picture to suit the film. When it searches for the movie on IMDB it gives me a list to choose from, but not for the cover art.

    snewman,
you can choose the cover after all the grabbing is done. on the dialog where you can see / change the movie-infos go to the tab "cover" and choose a number from the dropdown field and then click "update" or "preview" or whatever the button is labeled.

i just found this out recently when i updated to rc3. in rc2 setup always crashed when i activated this tab.
