MP 1.0.1 and problem with HD picture. (1 Viewer)

I had MP 1.0.1 installed successfully a few days after it was released.

For reasons I won't go into here I had to completely re-install all my drivers and support software for my Hauppage card a few days ago. This caused some problems within MP so I decided the easiest and cleanest solution would be simply to do a fresh, clean re-install of 1.0.1. I saved all settings and the recordings folder, and then re-installed from scratch.

Everything seemed to be fine until I tried to view an HD channel or play a recorded HD programme. The system just "dies" and I have to use Task Manager to kill the MP process. I've tried different codecs (Cyberlink, DIVX and ffdshow) with the same result each time. I can still record an HD program - I just can't play it (I know it's successfully recorded because I can play it with VLC).

I have tried to view the HD channel (BBC HD) in preview mode in TVServer setup; I get sound but no picture, just a white preview screen; when trying to view an HD channel in MP, nothing happens.

I have no problems with SD channels/programmes.

The programs I've tried would play in the first install, so something somewhere has changed and I cannot see where.

I attach a Media Portal log taken in debug mode. The first part shows successull viewing of an SD channel. The second part, from the line starting:

2009-04-21 17:51:25.702284

shows MP failing to start viewing an HD channel.

I don't have the knowledge to be able to interpret the info. so I hope someone can help here.

As I said, all this working the first time I installed 1.0.1 and I haven't done anything different!

OK. I was hoping for some help here. Perhaps I've posted in the wrong place - if so will a moderator plesae move this to whatever is the right place please.

In the meantime I want go back to version 1.0 whch worked OK for me. I didn't keep a copy of the install kit and I can't find a download location so would be very grateful if someone can point in the right place please.

Can you try reinstalling your video\audio drivers, a few users have reported similar issues and this fixed it for them, think the dx update may have affected some drivers

doornjoostje, thanks for the suggestion, but I don't have PowerDVD installed. I use the Cyberlink h264 codec from PowerCinema V5 that has always worked for me.

Paranoid Delusion, I have rolled back both video (nVidia) and sound (Realtek) to the previous versions - no change. I then let Windows find and update to the latest versions - no change.

In fact, things have gone backwards. In order to ensure the cleanest situation, after updating to the latest drivers I did a new, fresh install of 1.0.1 and now MP won't even show me SD TV, never mind HD! The odd thing is that in TVSetup, preview mode, I can see SD channels (but still not the HD channel).

It must be something, somewhere, in MP. I have run Filmerit and have no problems with any filters. I also have a copy of DVBViewer (acquired before I found MP) which I keep up-to-date as a tool for checking - and it plays BBC HD with no problems.

I have run the Watchdog tool after the latest failure to show even SD TV - the zip file is attached.

I'm getting desperate here - is there a repository where I can find previous versions I can go back to? I have loads of recorded TV that my wife is keen to watch and MP is much easier for her to use than DVBViewer.

    Tony,

Many thanks. I'll do that tomorrow.

After my past post I managed to find a link to 1.0 RC3. I've installed this - and it works fine. No problem with either SD or HD live TV, or playing of recordings. I changed nothing else.

So what's up with 1.0.1 on my system?

My video chip/card is an nVidia GeForce 7100 integrated on the motherboard (Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100 Socket 775 onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX Motherboard) and I have allocated 256MB memory.

I think this is well within the spec. - and as I said has been working OK with MP and still works OK with DVBViewer.
