I receive BBC HD and ITV1HD fine, but when I select BBC1 HD MP crashes, see logs after reproduce crash in debug mode. Usually when I restart MP, I can then watch BBC1 HD. Been using MP for a few years now and very happy with it - thanks to all concerned.

Mine has been doing something similar for the past couple of weeks. I thought it was ice on the dish, but it's still terrible now it's thawed. Sometimes BBC1HD will work, but usually (probably 4 times out of 5) it just hangs MP and needs a reboot. Sometimes it will sort of work, but very stuttery and pixelly as if it was a bad signal.

BBCHD and ITVHD both work fine, as do all the SD channels (on Astra anyway - I've never had the Eurobird ones working properly however much I fiddle with dish alignment).

I'll post my logs later and see if it's the same problem as the OP.

    Hi there,

Can you clear down your logs directories and then start MePo in debug mode and tune to the channel.

Your captured zip file has a lot of extra logs/crap in there.

Have you tried the obvious - rescanning the channels? Different Codec? Preferred Audio setting?

    Thanks,

    J.

Hmmm... mine's not as easy to reproduce as I thought. After virually not working at all for a week, I couldn't get it to go wrong once in debug mode. Then it crashed straight away in normal mode, so I tried disabling a couple of plugins (MyPipes game and HTPCInfo) and we'll see how it goes. If it hangs again I'll post logs...

    Rob,

Intermittent issues are the worst! :(

Its purely that one channel you are having issues with?

It seems to be just that one yes. I noticed it while it was icy and just put it down to bad reception, but now I've started really trying to investigate it seems that the other HD channels (BBCHD and ITV1HD) both work fine. Just BBC1HD was crashing. Sometimes it would pop up an error dialog ("tell Microsoft about it"), sometimes it would just hang completely with a black screen, and occasionally it would work. I now suspect it's not a signal issue because BBCHD is on the same transponder. (although it's hard to tell how good the signal is because my tumer always reports 100% even on Eurobird channels that are unwatchable, but I did check my dish as best I can thisafternoon with my cheap signal meter)

As I said, when I tried to reproduce the problem in debug mode it refused to happen. And then it seemed to be working in normal mode as well. If it crashes again I'll just post whatever the current logs are in case it helps anybody (or even me!)

OK, it seems I was wrong about it only happening with BBC1HD - it just did it trying to tune BBCHD (same transponder I think). So probably not really relevant in this thread any more, but I'll post the logs anyway.

Yes it (almost always) crashes on tuning, although I think a couple of times it's played for a couple of seconds then frozen. I'm using PDVD9 at the moment, but I've tried various codecs (both video and audio) over the last week or so.

What codec does it use in debug mode? Is it the same as in normal mode, so does it force a default one?

    Rob

(The earlier log is from the debug mode test when it refused to go wrong)

EDIT: Just realised how much crap MovingPictures does in the background!!!!!! Doesn't seem to be possible to stop it either, short of removing the directory from the importer (which I've just realised deletes all the information it had already imported. grrrrrrrrr). I wonder if that's anything to do with it (I've only been using it since quite recently, and it's obviously not running in debug mode...)

Hi. Nice to know someone else has same/similar problem. I don't use Moving pictures and I'm pretty sure the issue only happens on BBC1HD - ITV1HD & BBCHD all OK. But I always get the Microsoft request to send information when it crashes. Usually restarting MP allows me to select BBC 1HD

I think my issue might not be quite the same (or possibly I've got two issues). Sometimes it does exactly what you describe (microsoft error when tuning BBC1HD), but mine more often just hangs with a black screen, and this has happened at least once with BBCHD (not BBC1).
