After some minutes playing xvid files, MP freezes. It happens also when rewinding or fast forwarding the movie. The movie runs fine in Windows Mediaplayer 11.
The issue made me reinstall XP from scratch. I ran several tests by always starting on an image which I took before installing any codecs and MP. Here's the result:
Unfortunately, no useful log entries are produced (I have to restart the system using the shut down button once the issue appears). However, the text file I added to the pastebin (a GSpot export) gives some more details about an example movie causing the issue.
GraphEdit shows:

|__ AC3Filter --> Default Direct Sound Device
Any help to solve this annoying issue and hints on how to track it down is appreciated.

The issue made me reinstall XP from scratch. I ran several tests by always starting on an image which I took before installing any codecs and MP. Here's the result:
- The problem is not dependent on the codec: Neither ffdshow, DivX nor XVid helped solving the issue.
- The issue appears on a 0.2.2.0 installation as well as on an installation with the latest SVN
