When MP resumes from standby for e.g. a scheduled recording MP will hang on startup. The recording will start just fine and a single touch on any button on the remote will start up MP and from there I have no problems.

I restart mediaportal on resume because this is needed for the touchscreen plugin to work. I have tried the option in MP config for the workaround for MP haning on resume. This resultet in a BSOD and MP not starting even after several reboots, requiring a system restore before MP was up and working again.

There are no problems restarting MP manually from standby.

Anybody got a clue as to why this happens?

Short update, since I forgot to upload logs. Just made a fresh set replicating the error.

Any ideas as to what is happening?

I'm experiencing what sounds like a similar problem (see this thread). It only started happening a couple of weeks ago, without anything knowingly changing on my system. It may not be quite the same as mine, because you say it recovers if you press a button on the remote, but if I press a button the whole machine hangs (including the Antec VFD clock).

I'll just alow myself to bump this.

Nobody that can offer any kind of assistance on this?

I do not think that it is the same issue as Rob, since - as Rob also points out - my system only hangs until there is some user action whereafter the system continues and boots into MP as normal.

Any help in resolving this would be gratly appreciated!

Hmm... was it an error that could be discovered by a ordinary windows control of the HD or did it fail completly?

I noticed a corrupt file, tried to check the disc with ChkDsk but it would just hang. The official drive tester from Western Digital crashed as well. It got worse and worse until I got round to reinstalling on a different drive yesterday, and now it's all working fine again. I'll try formatting the old drive and using it elsewhere, but I suspect it's not going to last long. Anyway, I've solved my mystery, but it probably won't be much help to you. Can't expect MP to work reliably on broken hardware ;)
