So I'm looking to see what options I should be looking for in a NAS, and more specifically a make and model.

So the basic thing is storage .. I get that.
Some I see have a SQL database.. How does that work exactly with MP ? Tv server? In multiseat?
There's webservers - would that work with iPiMP (iPhone interface for mediaportal)? It's a tv server plugin
Some have an integrated bittorrent client - what program are these modelled from or do you somehow install utorrent on there or what?
I use Vuze which has it's own webclient to start /stop / monitor downloads and uploads.. Can the NAS just integrate that or what?

Heh kind of all over the place here just really need to know what I'm getting out of it.

Which one to recommend depends on what you are after. If you primary aim is just file storage (and presumably 20-40+ TBs of it) then going for a linux based custom NAS that you build like FreeNAS or UnRaid will work out much more economical than buying a ready made NAS that can handle that amount of storage. Both UnRaid and FreeNAS have plenty of custom software packages you can add if you are after additional functionality.

If you are after just a 2 or 4 HDD NAS and not wanting to re-use your old hardware or get your hands dirty then the pre-built NAS units such as QNAP, Synology, Netgear are all good.

Best recommendation is to look at the forums for the various products and read what people are using them for. Real Help For Your Small Network - SmallNetBuilder also has some useful articles and reviews of NAS units.

Gigabit network and 5400 rpm drives are all you need to mount 45GB Blu-Ray ISO images via DaemonTools Lite and watch via MediaPortal/ArcSoft TMT etc.

If you convert your movies into MKVs or other formats then the storage and performance is even less of an issue.
