Hi,

I am trying to run MediaPortal on dual mode with an NVidea G6600 card. I'd like to use the PC monitor just as normal PC monitor and the TV for the MP.

I configured nView the following:
1) set primary display on TV (it was stated several times that dirX only works on primary display since windows seems to support only this)
2) mapped the primary display to my TV
3) configured mp.exe always to start on the TV (i.e. primary display)

Advantage:
- you can now run MP in fullscreen mode running on TV using the HW-overlay also working on TV.
- working with dual but clone mode enables different resolutions and refresh rates for both phsical display, perfect so far

BUT NOW THE BIG DISADVANTAGES:
- if you start the MP in fullscreen, on the PC the complete task bar, try bar and start menue disappear!
In addition, which is really shit: windows does now always start on the TV, the PC monitor just has a blank screen (this is since windows seems to always put logon masks on the primary display, great shit !)
- if you go to an application on the PC monitor menawhile running MP on the TV, the applicaiton on the PC montor gets the active application and as such the remote control cannot be used anymore for the MP. Only afer making MP the active app again , remote works again

I am loosing hours for trying to solve this feature. Can anyone help me here ? especially with configuring nView correctly ?

a) how can I make logon, taskbar, start menu working on PC monitor (=secondary display) meanwhile running MP on the TV (i.e. primary display) in fullscreen mode ?
b) how to overcome this problem of remote controlling if being an inactive application ?

also any other suggestion (i.e. using span mode instead of dual-mode) or whatever is welcome to let both run in parallel on 2 screens.

Thanx,
Tobi

I'm also using girder as remote solution for MP. Very flexible application.

Move the taskbar to the secondary display by drag and drop with the mouse pointer in the clock, rightmost in the taskbar. The taskbar will appear on secondary display until you move it again. As for the taskbar dissapearing problem there is a setting for that in MP setup. (I think...)

I haven't been able to solve the problem that the logon only occurs on primary diplay. In my situation the logon will appear on my TV, which is often off and secondary display all black. However, I allways use the same user name, so I type the password without seeing the logon info. I haven't missed so far ;-)

Sometimes windows will appear on my TV when I want them on my secondary display. I have configured a hotkey in Girder so that the currently active window will move to the secondary, unless it is the MP window. You can do this manually as well. When a window pops up on the TV and you can't see it, press ALT + SPACE followed by M. Then move the window with the arow keys.

I hope this helps

Thanx to both of you ! I'm gonna try this as soon as possible.
I did not notice there is a setting in the nView tools bar.
Also using girder I did never try since I have an original windows remote control and after plugging it worked perfectly so there was never any need to chenge it BUT NOW :)

Stanik, your English is quite good. I am also not a native speaker :) we are neighbours, I am from Munich :) So you don't have to exucse. I am very happy for any helpful comments. So thanx again, I'll report back when I got it to work.

Good night,
Tobi

    Hi,

My solution of your problems are here: Mediaportal on TV and Windows Desktop on Monitor together - working solution !!!! - MediaPortal Forum

For Remote Controling I am using Girder. Girder sends command directly to the application. So you can have open another app, MP will be in background, but remote will send commands (keystrokes) only to the MP.

    Stanik

Do you have any information on how to do this?

I have installed Girder, but, just cannot work out what to do next

    Thanks
