Hi

I’m planning to build a new HTPC and I want to use Mediaportal.
But I’m not sure of what OS to chose, Vista or XP?

I have a HTPC now using MP and XP and that works fine.

Will I get any improvements if MP is installed on Vista, smother GUI and so on?

regards

Based on your system (AMD3200+ / 1GB RAM) i would choose XP Pro SP3.
Your computer isn't fast enough for HD Video / HDTV, but will be fine for SD.

My computer would work well with both XP and vista, but i still prefer XP for HTPC, i think things will be different when Windows 7 SP1 comes out. Lots of people use vista for MP too and both work well, but i think your computer would be better for XP.

    ok.

But if i buy a new computer ("upto data") what will the performance of MP be the same on XP or Vista?

I'm asking because almost all new computers in denmark has Vista included/installed.

The big thing with MP is the video card performance, particularly with Vista because you need to run with Aero enabled (to prevent tearing) and EVR renderer.

Basically this means (for HD TV in particular) a minimum of an ATi 4550 or nVidia 9400GT, but more powerful would be better (I run a 9500GT on Vista).
