Sometimes when changing channels from a h264 based HDTV channel to a SDTV channel the picture just freeze with the HDTV image, and audio from the SDTV continue as normal. MP continues to act normal, except the TV picture is frozen.

Enclosed are log files of this happening.

Sometimes the same results in bsod, I will try to reproduce bsod and add those log files later..

I've had these problems for a long time now I believe pre RC2 (including svn) And I've also had the problem using the integrated ATI 3200 graphics. The bsod is related to some ati file.

BSOD are 99.99% related to divers or broken hardware, 0.01% is bug in Windows kernel itself. Try different driver or codec version. Sometimes its possible that different codec version doesnt trigger some driver side bug.

Hard to say if the video freeze when zapping is caused by drivers / codec / MP. First step would be to find cure to the BSOD.

well the BSOD is a little harder to reproduce, but the trigger is the same (HDTV is involved) As I said I had this problem with ATi 3200 integrated gfx, and I have the same problem with a ATi 4650 on a fresh install of vista (only catalyst 8.9 on CD works, catalyst 8.10 doesn't even support 4650 yet) in my experience it's rarely hardware related, mostly software/drivers.

I've allways used the PowerDVD8 though, so that might be related.

with my limited knowledge looking at the log, it seems there is problems identifying the stream, and the codec refuse to decode it.

I just tried using mpv videocodec for mpg2 and mpc codec for h264, this time it was the other way around, the sdtv image frooze and the hdtv audio continued.

Try change your MPEG2 codec to MPV, works for me.
with PD7/8 as mpeg2 codec, the same probem as you, black screen with sound. When changes from Tv norge HD to TV3

keep the PD codec on H264

Are the mpv mpg2 codec that comes with MP the same as Media Player Classic home cinema provide ?

Becuase I installed the mpg2 codec from mpc-hc, and the mpv codec was gone, the filename is the same, but the mpc-hc are newer and seems better.

with mpc-hc codec for both mpg2 and h264 it seemed to work fine, until I did a h264 -> h264 channel change, then my ATi 4650 did a vpu recover. Wich it has done 18 times in the last four weeks.

The vpu recover isn't normally a problem, unless it happens when MP is playing video, then all of MP becomes black and unresponsive. If it happens when MP is "idle" then no problem.

Doint some more testing now, thanks for input everyone!

OK, god the BSOD again, unfortunatly the log didn't catch anything.

    what I did was

    1. start SDTV (mpc codec)
    this worked fine
    2. use miniepg to change channel to TV Norge HD (mpc codec - h264)
Audio worked fine, image stuck at last frame on SDTV
    3. went back to basic home, and stopped tv (press B)
    4. open TV again and try to tune TV Norge HD
    5. BSOD

The logs seems to have stoped at 2. open the miniepg (odd thing is the log file have a lot of empty lines, like it had plans to write something but never got arount to doing it) And the more I think about it, I believe the bsod allway comes after a failed attempt to watch tv, like it fails and I try again -> bsod.

    ANOTHER BSOD:
    guess my memory wasn't 100%
    this is what happened:

I changed to mpc codec for mpg2 and pdvd8 for h264 as suggested by ReadyOrNot, this worked fine, changed between sdtv and hdtv several times no problems. Then I went from SDTV to Canal+HD, then the gfx did the vpu recover again, this is the same channel as it did last time the vpu recover kicked in.
I restarted MP, started sdtv, no problems. Open miniepg change to HDTV -> BSOD. Same thing about the log files, they stop at the miniepg part and have several empty lines below this:

    Hi,
Why not attach all logs as required for a bug report, crashes in vista are logged to event logger which it's zipped when using log collector.

    Regards
