Hi,

0.2.3.0 RCD
Compaq box
PIII 1 Ghz
Haupauge 250
MB Sound
Nvidia 5600 graphics card

Very confused here. I am running 0.2.3.0 RC2 (and loving it) but today I was watching a DVD and the system hung. I pulled the DVD b/c nothing else would work. Shut down MP and rebooted win XP.

At this point, all I got was a MP error message and an vbYesNO box asking to send the log to MS.

Repaired MP though add/remove programs....same problem
Uninstalled and reinstalled....same problem
Downgraded to the origional 2.2 version I was using...still getting unable to load MP error

Thinking it may have been the latest MS patch that was making MP unstable I did a system restore to last week. Reinstalled 0.2.3.0 RC2 and....same problem

Took same DVD I was playing when this all started and ran it in Win Media Player 11 and movie played fine. Finished watching movie and threw the ball around for the dog...good times. But now...still no MP

Any thoughts?

Sorry I am a bit of a noob. What config info would be helpful? I ran the debug utility in MP but that also brought up an error. I went to MS and got .net 2.0 and installed (though it said I already had it and just asked me if I wanted to repair. and I did) Using the MP debug I got the following

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Anyone Have any Ideas? Also finding that Win Media Player crashes at the main menu screen of most DVDs. This may be a known bug though since once I get past the menu and into the mian movie it plays fine....mostly.

    This log information most definitively refers to a .net Framework related error. I would recommend you to uninstall all .net Framework versions (1.1, 2.0, 3.0) you have installed and reinstall 1.1 and 2.0 afterwards AFTER REBOOTING. Finally you also should install all windows updates for these Frameworks.

    No luck. I unistalled .net and reinstalled. MP will not boot. I guess its time to reinstall Windows? Ugh! say it isn't so!

    This error is .net related. If a clean reinstallation of this packages doesn't solve your problem your system might be corrupted in a way that nobody can reproduce. I see no other way than reinstalling Windows.

    can you start "Mediaportal Configuration"?

    If no, you can try to rename Mediaportal.xml to something else. I had the situation before, when nothing would start anymore because of a corrupt Mediaportal.xml
