    Hi all

Great job with MP1.0.1 - well done team!

Had a crash while changing TV channels - no idea why and not reproducable.

See attached logs - hopefully they will mean something to someone!

    Cheers
    ...Steve

    Hi all,

I'm getting almost daily unnattended crashes now. Here's a few more logs.

Anyone able to shed some light on this? I can't see anything obvious in the logs.

BTW is there a "How to interpret the diagnostic logs" manual or guide anywhere?

    Cheers

    ...Steve

    Hi Steve,

What exactly do you mean by:-
I'm getting almost daily unnattended crashes now.
    What is "crashing"?
Does MediaPortal exit back to Windows?
    Does Windows BSD or reboot?
What were you doing at the time of the "crash"?
Is it reproducible - by that I mean, is it the same action that has caused every "crash"?

The more information you can provide to describe this issue, the more likely we are able to suggest a cause ....

I notice that you have two Hauppauge DVB-T tuner cards, and I gather form the topic that the "crash" occurs ONLY when you change channels?
If that is correct, does the crash occur with only one or both TV cards?
Do you have the latest BDA drivers installed for these cards?
Do you have the "dvbfix" installed?

    Hi Taipan,
Sorry - I was a bit light on with the details.

The last 3 crashes were unattended and only noticed when I turn on the TV (the PC runs all the time). The MP screen is frozen (no response to anything), and I do a CTRL+ALT+Delete to the task manager, which showed MP as "not responding". So I ended the MP task and saved the logs at that time. Usually, I leave MP running in "watching TV" mode, and just shut down the display. It's not reproducable in the meaning that I don't know what specific user action causes it.

Only the HaupPage 2200 card is in use - the other is waiting for an antenna connection! The other tuners are disabled in the MP TV server configuration

I do have the dvbfix installed, and as far as I know, all the latest drivers (as far as I know anyway - what are BDA?).

Hope this helps a little. Please let me know if you need any more details.

    Cheers
    ...Steve

Hmmm - this might be a clue ...

Usually, I leave MP running in "watching TV" mode, and just shut down the display.
Could you try stopping TV and exiting to the MP home screen, before you turn the display off, and see if the problem persists? I am guessing that your video card might not be happy about having the display turned off while video is still playing ...

Thanks Taipan. I'll try that and let you know.

If that is the solution, is there a video card that doesn't cause this issue? It's a bit inconvenient and I can see the 'boss' having another winge about the 'xxxx media centre thingy':)))

    Cheers

I am only guessing that this might be the cause - so don't get too excited yet!

I am not sure why you leave the PC running 24x7? I use PowerScheduler to put the PC into standby mode if there is no video playing (which also puts the monitor into low-power mode), and then use the "PC" button on the remote to start it up again. The 'boss' in my houshold seems perfectly happy with that, and it saves wear on the HDD and reduces power consumption .... :D

    Hi Taipan,
The monitor is a seperate LCD TV and needs to be powered down seperatley. That's not a big deal as I have a harmony remote.

I tried using Powerscheduler in the pre-MP1 days and had huge problems with it, so I've been somewhat shy of using since then.

However, I'll put it higher up my list of things to try out now:)

    Thanks for your help....

    Cheers

    Hi Taipan,

Well, since doing both things (installing Powerscheduler and turning MP TV off when not in use) I haven't had any problems (nearly 2 weeks now!)! Thanks again.
    Cheers

Ran into this problem following an otherwise sucessful upgrade from MP 1.34 x64 to MP 1.35 x64 the CEC Remote plugin which I use just to control volume and standby, will no longer put my devices (TV & AVR) to sleep when the HTPC is put in standby. Also when I wake up the HTPC MP closes or crashes (not sure which) as per the example in...

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal. Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...
