My HTPC (a Dell XPS 420) also has problems waking from sleep (one of the TBS tuner cards disappears from "Device Manager" on wake from sleep), but luckily the system works quite reliably using hibernation in place of sleep. (Getting it to wake from hibernation using the remote control is a bit convoluted, but now that I have it all set up, it works well.)

It is a bit depressing that it seems impossible to predict whether two pieces of computer equipment will work correctly together. I am fairly certain that my problem is due to an error in the motherboard BIOS, for which (of course) there is now no support from Dell (it is not a current system).
