I have videos in two formats. Some are ripped dvds in Video_TS folders that work perfectly. I also have some videos in .mp4 format which will play on vlc or quicktime, and at one time would launch on CRT monitor, but now it will no longer launch on LCD monitor or 27in television.

Yes, .mp4 is in the movie extensions. Thanks for any help.

That doesn't seem to work. The screen flickers twice when I choose a movie, and nothing happens.

Hoborg, thanks for your help. I've added those codecs and it still won't work.

Are you using Vista or xp

Try changing the video renderer, to do this open MP config top right there is a button to change to EXPERT mode, you will now see directshow filters as a option, go there, one of 2 things usually work, if VMR9 disable exclusive mode, see if that now plays mp4's.
If not change above to EVR (enhanced video renderer).

    Regards

Again, I have now tried all of these things. This is frustrating, especially since at one time it worked fine. I have attached my error log in the hopes that might explain things. Thanks.

Check your codecs with filmerit (link in signature), use the padlock button to unlock repair feature.

If you cannot get mp4's to play, then try the Vista codec pack, you will need to uninstall any other codecs installed (not mpeg2 ones, ie PowerDVD), this is very good at correcting registry entries which may be screwing up the whole windows system.
