The tvserver handles all recording etc events, the MP frontend is not required to actually be running. The MP frontend can safely be closed and Tvserver will continue to record and start new recordings.You may be confusing this with the Powerscheduler which has a box to tick requiring MP to be in the home screen for shutdown.
