MediaPortal Version: Latest ver 1
Windows Version: XP Pro SP2
Remote: Samsung BN59-00516A
IR Receiver: Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Receiver 2.1

Hi everyone,

Im setting up MediaPortal and I want to use my Samsung LCD TV remote control to control MediaPortal.

I have a MS Wireless Desktop 1000 InfraRed receiver here and Im just working out how I can get the two to talk to each other?

The Samsung can be programed to control other devices (by entering in the 3 digit device code)

Does anyone know,.... Can this be done? and if so... how?

Thanks in advance!! :)

    hi there,
I think you have two options. The first is to get the device to emulate the Microsoft MCE remote and use the MP config app to turn on MCE remote in config/remote.MCE

The second is to try the MCE replacement application, written by and-81. Do a search for it. It's more work to set up than option 1 but will give you a lot more versatility.

    Good Luck :)

    Hey Marcusb,

    Thanks alot for your advice.

The bit that im particularly stuck at is the programing of the remote control.

I need to know the three digit code for the receiver. Perhaps the 'MP config App' emulated this code?

The remote wont have a 3-digit code to suit the MS Wireless Desktop receiver.

I'd love to support using the receiver for that purpose ... getting extra functionality out of devices like that is always fun.

Are you sure the receiver is IR though? I've seen RF ones, but not IR. Do you have a web link for more info?

    Cheers,

    That's ok.

If you ever buy an MCE remote (with receiver) or a USB-UIRT then you'll be able to use the TV remote ...

It's always worth asking these questions though.

    Cheers,
