Hi there,
I use MP mostly for listing my mp3 and m4a music files. I figured out when I use a fully completed music database, this will slow down significantly the start of a playlist. A playlist is about 13 folders, 220 files.
When not using the database, the playlist almost starts instantly. Of course there's no duration at this point.
I cleared all the checkboxes when recreating the database but no change.

Even when using 2 sata HD's 7200 rpm at raid0, the delay is remarkable.
MP is 0210, svn--12-10-2006.

Has anyone experience in speeding up this?
Thanx.

Did you test that with 0.2.1, too? Should even be slower there..
The key to a good music experience are clean files with are tagged completely.

If your files may be downloaded, chaotic ones which maybe contain bad headers and stuff you'll see an improvement by deactivating "Use ID3" either from MP's GUI settings or config.

I'm a bit confused; MP 0210 and 021 are the same versions? I suppose so.

Furthermore, the checkbox for using the ID from the file is cleared. The helptext is warning already for slow response, so I did not use this.

Can I edit the .db3 database to 'complete' the missing data with simple data? In my case I only use the 'duration' field of the tag.

rofl - why would you spend time on editing the database manually instead of simply care for correct tags?

Thank you for your reply. Your answer is simple, but it takes lots of work.

I mentioned to have a playlist which include about 13 folders, 220 files. This is only a part of my collection. I have about 17k files in hundred of folders. It wil take al hell of a job to 'mp3-tag' these files. So I'm looking for a smart way to see the right duration in the playlist with a reasonable amount of work.

I'm quit familiar with MS Access and its queries. Is odbc possible or is there a thread of this?

If your filenames follow certain rules, I can recommend this tagger.

I have defined 7-8 templates for differently named tracks.

but files in one folder need to follow the same naming scheme, otherwise this won´t work out for you in a fast way.

The progam will do a filename -> tag transition. (It does a lot more, too)
