Hi,
I run it on ASRock ION 330, on Win7.
Sound in movies works normally. Sound in music files goes only to optical, not HDMI.
If I set in configuration HDMI explicitly (instead of default device) - no sound at all.
In config panel HDMI is set as default device.
FDDshow is installed. What else am I missing ?

Silly question, but is the TV/monitor on when you are just playing music (or do you have a 'monitor off' screen saver) ? - when it's turned off the PC may disable the HDMI output - no HDMI video means no HDMI audio (it's embedded into the video data), and Windows will fall back to using another sound device if the default one isn't available.

No, AVR & Projector are on. AVR shows "multichannel in" when music file is playing, but no sound.
If I play the same file using any player (media center, media player, vlc, media player classic) I get sound OK through HDMI.
I am not sure if it worked before, because I focused on getting mkv w/subtitles to work (non trivial job on IONs, thanks to MS). Now, when I sorted it out (sortof), I suddenly found no sound on music files ...

Are you using BASS player with ASIO audio interface ? If so, maybe the HDMI sound drivers don't support ASIO (or try using the MP DirectShow player instead)

I tried BASS player and the other one (there are 2 players in MP). Don't know what ASIO interface is, didn't ever see this acronym in MP.

Try using GraphStudio (see the link below) to find out which filters and renderers are used when playing the audio files.

Just as a check : Try this, it works for me (not very practical but see if it works :-( )
It goes something like this :
    - close MP
    - start windows mediaplayer with an mp3
    - put the mediaplayer in pause, NOT STOP !
    - start mp
    - go to tv, play a recording stop
    - goto music, play MP3.
Works for me, for you also ?
I have a differenf config, so if this works for you, I guess MP is forgetting to set something right in our case.
