Hi,

I'm not sure what I do wrong but I think the Music Share Watcher is not working as expected.

The MusicShareWatcher EXE is stored in my autostart folder, it's running and sitting in the task bar. Two music folders (M:\ and N:\) are defined and "Monitor shares for changes and update database" on Music/Music database in the MP configuration is enabled. The Music Share Watcher plugin is disabled (the EXE is running instead).

Now I update/add new files to one of these shares - nothing happens. The files are not changed in nor added to the database. What additional settings are neccassary.

Many thanks in advance.
Harald

i find that it works ok UNTIL i put the PC to sleep and then wake it up again.

ie it succesfully adds files to database while MP is running during it's initial load, but if i put the PC the sleep and then wake it up again, it stops working and doesn't monitor changes until i close MP and re-start it again.

my files are on network drives also - but it does initially work.

hmm: M:\ and N:\ are network drives right?
looks like the .Net FilesystemWatcher has problems on network drives.

    Hi,

    thanks for your fast answer.

Sure, M:\ and N:\ are network shares. I thought Music Share Watcher is for network shares (no rant here, just kidding).

    Greetings and thanks
    Harald

yes, as per definition of Microsoft it should work.
i've recently discovered however that it doesn't work on my NAS.
maybe it is some sort of Samba issue.

i will need to dig into that.

share watcher doesn't work for local drives? I have 2 drive letters on my HTPC box, M:\ and N:\, and both are physical drives in the HTPC. When I added music into the folder, it didn't add the new music I added to the database.

Update: It should work on Network drives if the Network OS is from Microsoft. some sort of Win2k server or a networked Windows XP.
if the network drives are on a Samba server, it won't work.

well, at least it won't work the way i designed the stuff currently.
Samba doesn't fire an event for a single file modified.
it fires an event and tells that in a directory something has changed. Not telling what has changed.

So i could have following scenario:
    1. A file got added
    2. A file got updated
    3. A file got deleted

by scanning the directory and comparing the File dates, i can identify a file that has been added and a file that has been updated.
But i can't detect files, which have been deleted automatically. i maybe need to compare the directory content with the information i have in the db.
if there's a file in the database and not in the directory, it has been removed.

ok, so far for the theoretical part.
i need to verify, if that is really true.
thread will be updated, once i know more

i agree that it works with windows network drives... however it STOPS working if you put the PC to sleep then wake it back up again.

to get it to start working again you need to close MP and re-start it.
