My GF does not like "My music" (1 Viewer)

Ok. I dont want to be a pain in the ass.

My GirlFriend simply dont like the browsing of my music. I have tried explaining to her why stuff are like they are etc. But right now, that is one of the main reasons why my pretty MP box is switched to plain ugly Windows XP regularly.

I dont know if the problem is that an interface built for 5' distance and no mouse inherently is less efficient than a regular font-size 1366x768 display, or if there are some clever design improvements that would "fix" the problem within the constraints of a remote-controlled media center.


I will try to explain our use-case:
-approx 18000 songs
-some are tagged very good, some approximately and a few are very badly tagged (tedious task, and Ive spent many hours...)
-Songs are sorted into alphabetical folders


So what does my GF do? She always manage to find the "folder view" that is very poorly named "show all" (at least in Norwegian). Then she complains that the search-button is disabled in this view. And she complains that she has scrolled down 4 pages and are still at "A". Lastly, she refuse to use one of the excellent playlists I havemade, or make one herself.

So what is my suggestion? I really dont know. But I am hoping for a more intuitive layout that anyone can grasp the very first time. making the search button independent of view would be a good start. I have no idea if this can be easily done. No matter what I am viewing, if I enter a search string I would most probably want items matching that string in the artist, title, album tag or anywhere else.

Also, it seems that the search starts out by single-letter folders now. Why is that?

Using MusicBrainz Picard for tagging is great (but timeconsuming as well)

-approx 18000 songs

I don't have that many songs (but all mine are PROPERLY - 100% tagged (except children-songs in Norwegian), but here is a customized view that I find very intuitive

Selection______________View As________ (no grouping)
Artist ________________ ALBUM
Album________________ Album
Title__________________ List

Advantages:
- Only up/down arrows used - like many other m-players
- Artist image appears - spotting an image and recognising it is faster than reading

Why not edit your language-string to an better expression then?
